International applicants take the same TMUA, receive results on the same 1.0–9.0 scale and are assessed under the same test rules as UK candidates. There is no international version and no easier or harder paper based on your school qualification.
The important differences are practical: test-centre availability, the location-based fee, travel, UK-time deadlines, photo ID and mapping the syllabus to a non-UK curriculum.
This guide covers the October 2026 and January 2027 TMUA sittings for autumn 2027 university entry. Information was checked on 25 August 2026.

Finding an International TMUA Test Centre
You choose an available centre in Pearson's booking system after creating a UAT-UK account and selecting TMUA. A nearby Pearson centre is not automatically a TMUA centre on every test date, so rely on the live appointments shown during booking.
Book early and compare:
- distance and border-crossing requirements
- appointment time in the centre's local time
- passport and visa needs for cross-border travel
- public holidays, weather and transport reliability
- whether you can reach a backup centre if plans change
UAT-UK says candidates outside the UK may need to travel farther within their country. The special 40-mile support process is for UK bookings; it is not a worldwide promise that a centre will exist within 40 miles.
Locations with current delivery restrictions
Pearson's current UAT-UK page says it will not deliver the tests in Quebec, Canada because of local legal requirements. It also lists Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria as sanctioned locations where Pearson does not operate test centres or deliver UAT-UK services.
Candidates affected by those restrictions may test in another country. Pearson says candidates from the listed sanctioned countries may present qualifying ID from their country and do not need to prove residence in the country where they test. Check the current Pearson UAT-UK page before arranging visas or non-refundable travel because availability and legal restrictions can change.
Special Dates in China, Hong Kong and Macau
For test security, the full multi-day windows do not apply in these locations.

UAT-UK says it cannot make exceptions to these regional delivery dates. Book as soon as the appropriate window opens if you need a particular city.

An Indian applicant sitting in London pays £78; a British applicant sitting in Delhi pays £133. The centre location controls the price.
The charge is made during Pearson booking. Your bank may add exchange-rate or foreign-transaction costs. UAT-UK's bursary is for eligible UK candidates in financial need, so overseas applicants should budget on the basis that the £133 fee and any travel costs are payable.

Convert the booking deadlines from UK time carefully. Your Pearson appointment confirmation, however, should show the centre's local date and time.
Oxford and Cambridge Applicants Abroad
International status does not give standard Oxford or Cambridge applicants permission to use January.
- Oxford applicants for TMUA courses must take the October 2026 sitting.
- Most Cambridge applicants for Computer Science, Economics and Mathematics must also take October 2026.
- Cambridge's January-round mature applicants may use January where the official course and college rules permit it.
Applicants to the other TMUA universities can generally choose October or January, but the exact course page controls. UAT-UK says there is no advantage between sittings where both are accepted.
How International Qualifications Map to the TMUA Syllabus
The official description refers to higher-tier GCSE and AS-level Mathematics because those are familiar UK benchmarks. International candidates should not assume that a local course title proves complete coverage.
Instead:
- Download the official 2027 TMUA specification.
- Compare each numbered item with your IB, AP, CBSE, ISC, A-level, national or provincial syllabus.
- Revise missing topics using the official Notes on Mathematics.
- Study the Notes on Logic and Proof for Paper 2 terminology.
- Practise without a calculator or formula booklet.
The test does not require familiarity with UK classroom examples, but it does require the exact mathematical knowledge and reasoning in the specification.
TMUA Is Not an English-Language Test
TMUA questions are presented in English, and a dictionary is not permitted. However, TMUA does not certify English proficiency and does not replace IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or another qualification required by a university.
You may need all of the following:
- an accepted international school-leaving qualification
- TMUA for the chosen course
- separate proof of English-language proficiency
A high TMUA score does not automatically waive a course's English condition. Check the university's official country, qualification and language pages for 2027 entry.
Photo ID for International Test Centres
Your full booking name must exactly match the valid photo ID presented at the centre. Under the current UAT-UK test-day rules, accepted ID includes:
- passport — accepted at any test centre
- photo-card driving licence — accepted in its country of issue
- EU ID card — accepted at EU centres, but not UK centres
- government-issued ID card — accepted in its country of issue
The ID must normally be original, unexpired, government-issued, show a true-likeness photo and contain a signature. If you are testing outside the country that issued your local ID, a passport is the safest portable option. Read the current policy rather than relying on a school's past experience.
UAT-UK warns that a name mismatch can result in refusal and loss of the fee. Use the same personal details across UAT-UK, Pearson and UCAS, and resolve transliteration or ordering differences well before test day.
UCAS Matching and Score Sharing
Add your UCAS Personal ID to the UAT-UK profile before submitting the application. UAT-UK and Pearson use it with other personal data to match results.
The score is shared automatically, course by course, with participating institutions in your UCAS application where TMUA is compulsory or optional. You cannot choose to send a score to one relevant TMUA university but hide it from another.
Access Arrangements and Test-Day Problems
International candidates can request access arrangements, but must do so before selecting or booking the test and by the earlier arrangement deadline. Evidence requirements apply, and UAT-UK says adjustments cannot simply be added at the centre on arrival.
If something goes wrong:
- report it to centre staff immediately, or within 24 hours at the latest under the incident policy
- keep the case or incident details
- contact Pearson within the specified follow-up window
- use UAT-UK's special-consideration process for serious illness or personal circumstances
Do not wait for score release. UAT-UK and universities can only consider evidence through the published procedure and timetable.

- Map your school curriculum line by line to the official specification.
- Check separate university qualification and English requirements.
- Bring valid original photo ID and the Pearson confirmation.
