International applicants take the same LNAT as UK applicants: 42 multiple-choice questions in 95 minutes and one essay in 40 minutes. The exam is delivered in person through Pearson VUE, and universities use the result alongside your international qualifications and the rest of your application.
The differences are practical rather than academic: test-centre availability, travel, payment, identification, time zones and separate English-language requirements need earlier planning.

Finding an LNAT Test Centre Abroad
Use the official Pearson VUE live test-centre locator for current centres and appointments. The directory changes as centres open, close temporarily or fill.
Do not contact a centre to arrange the appointment directly. Create your LNAT account and book through the official system. Search early enough to compare:
- travel time and border requirements
- appointment dates before your earliest university deadline
- local keyboard layout
- acceptable identification
- realistic contingency time if the centre cancels or travel is disrupted
The official LNAT site notes that keyboards generally follow the local layout, although some centres use a US layout. If this affects your essay typing, contact the centre to check the configuration and practise on that layout.
What If My Country Has No LNAT Test Centre?
No-centre cases are handled by universities, not by a universal automatic waiver.
- Search the live locator, including reasonable cross-border options.
- Contact the LNAT Administrator to confirm that no centre is reasonably accessible.
- Contact each LNAT university you are applying to before its deadline.
- Follow that university's evidence and alternative-assessment process.
Each institution decides exemptions case by case. UCL, for example, tells 2027 applicants with no centre in their home country to contact UCL Laws before 31 December 2026 with their UCAS ID. Glasgow lists lack of access, emergency, adverse travel and unreasonable travel cost among circumstances it may consider. LSE describes exemptions as rare.
Never skip the test and assume the university will fix the issue later.
LNAT Fees for International Students

An Indian citizen sitting in London pays the UK/EU-centre fee; a UK citizen sitting in India pays the outside-EU fee. Nationality does not set the price.
The fee is charged in GBP. Your bank may apply currency conversion and a foreign-transaction fee. Check the official LNAT payment page for accepted cards and the current list of countries where card-verification restrictions require an e-voucher. Voucher processing can take several working days, so it must be arranged before the booking deadline.
The LNAT bursary is not a worldwide fee waiver. Official eligibility is limited to qualifying UK and EU applicants sitting at UK or EU test centres.
LNAT and UCAS Deadlines for International Applicants
International status does not change the Oxford, Cambridge, KCL, LSE or UCL equal-consideration LNAT deadlines.

UCAS identifies 13 January 2027 at 18:00 UK time as the equal-consideration deadline for most undergraduate courses. Universities may accept later international applications, but they do not have to, and their LNAT deadline may already have passed.
The LNAT site publishes a late window through July 2027, mainly relevant to some international applicants. It also warns that chosen universities may not accept a result taken that late. Get written confirmation from every institution before relying on it.
SUSS uses a separate window for its July 2027 intake: its applicants may take LNAT from 1 September 2026 to 15 March 2027. IE University applicants should check the current programme page because a choice of admissions tests may apply.
LNAT Is Not an English-Language Test
LNAT Section B requires a good command of written English, but the LNAT does not certify English proficiency and does not replace IELTS, TOEFL or another qualification required by a university.
You may therefore need all three of these:
- an accepted school-leaving qualification
- LNAT for the specific law course
- separate evidence that you meet the university's English-language level
Requirements vary by institution and course. UCL Laws, for example, publishes a separate Level 4 English requirement; Bristol's 2027 Law page lists its own accepted evidence and scores. Check the university's official country and course pages rather than assuming a strong LNAT essay waives a language condition.
Identification and Name Matching
Take an original, valid photo ID accepted under the LNAT identification policy. A passport is usually the simplest option for international travel and is recognised across test-centre locations.
Before test day, check that these match exactly where required:
- name on the LNAT booking
- name on your ID
- date of birth
- surname and other details on UCAS
- UCAS Personal Identifier in your LNAT profile
- selected universities in the LNAT account
A mismatch can prevent a university from retrieving your result. Update account details early and keep evidence of any authorised name variation.
Time Zones and Travel Planning
Published university deadlines use UK time unless stated otherwise. On 13 January 2027, the UCAS equal-consideration deadline is 18:00 UK time, not 18:00 in your home country.
For the test appointment itself:
- use the date and local time shown in the Pearson VUE confirmation
- arrive according to the centre's check-in instructions
- allow for traffic, public holidays and border crossings
- avoid booking the last possible day
- keep the LNAT customer-service and university contacts accessible
If an incident occurs during the test, tell staff immediately and obtain an incident or case number before leaving. Contact the LNAT Administrator promptly; a resit is possible only when authorised.
